Ford of Canada Limited (Ford of Canada) warrants that its authorized dealers will repair, replace or adjust the Lincoln vehicle parts manufactured or supplied by Ford found to be defective due to factory workmanship or materials for the coverage periods described in the Warranty Information section of this warranty guide.

Who is authorized to perform warranty repairs?

For warranty repairs, you must take your vehicle to a Ford or Ford Lincoln dealer. While all Ford or Ford Lincoln dealerships offering your vehicle range provide warranty services, we recommend that you visit the dealer where you purchased your vehicle and who wants to ensure your continued satisfaction.

Please note that some warranty repairs require special training and equipment; therefore, not all dealerships are authorized to perform all repairs. This means that depending on the warranty repair required, you may need to visit another dealership. In some cases, Ford may agree to have your vehicle repaired by a repair center that is not a Ford or Ford Lincoln dealer.

After visiting the dealer with your vehicle, please allow a reasonable time for the repair to be completed. Repairs will be made with Ford or Motorcraft parts, reconditioned parts, or other parts authorized by Ford.

Who pays for warranty repairs?

Ford of Canada covers the cost of warranty repairs performed under the new vehicle limited warranty coverage on new vehicles within the "time and mileage limitations" stated in the new vehicle limited warranty.

Parts (excluding tires) repaired under the new vehicle limited warranty coverage are either: (i) warranted for 3 months or 5,000 km (whichever occurs first), or (ii) covered by the new vehicle limited warranty for the remaining coverage period, whichever is longer. This warranty will be subject to the terms of the new vehicle limited warranty.

NOTE: Tires replaced under the new vehicle limited warranty are only covered by the remaining basic warranty coverage. See the tire warranty for more details.

Federal and provincial governments may require an eco-tax or disposal tax (levy) calculated on all or a portion of a repair performed under warranty. If so, this tax (levy) must be paid by you, the vehicle owner.

When does the warranty take effect?

The warranty takes effect on the original receipt date of the vehicle, or on the date of its first use (whichever occurs first). This date corresponds to the "original warranty commencement date".

WHAT IS COVERED?

Basic Warranty

Under the new vehicle limited warranty, the basic warranty is effective on the original warranty commencement date and covers a period of 48 months or 80,000 km (whichever occurs first). Under this basic warranty, the entire vehicle is covered, except for components covered in the following warranties contained in this warranty guide and items listed in the What Is Not Covered by This New Vehicle Limited Warranty section?

Coverage of Hybrid/Electric Unique Components

Coverage of Hybrid Unique Components

Under your new vehicle warranty, the following components are warranted against defects in factory workmanship or materials for a period of 8 years or 160,000 km, whichever occurs first, from the original warranty commencement date: high-voltage battery, DC-DC converter, electronically controlled continuously variable transmission, high-voltage battery connector, complete ventilation unit, thermistor probe, hybrid battery pack sensor module, and battery energy control module.

Corrosion Warranty

  • If corrosion causes perforations (holes) in the body sheet metal panels, coverage extends to a period of 5 years/unlimited distance.
  • If corrosion does not result in perforations (holes) and is not caused by vehicle use or airborne particles, the corrosion warranty covers a period of 48 months or 80,000 km (whichever occurs first).

If your vehicle is damaged by airborne particles (fallout) while the vehicle has no defects in factory workmanship or materials, and therefore the incident is not eligible under Ford of Canada warranty, Ford of Canada will still cover paint damage caused by airborne particles (fallout) for 12 months or 20,000 km (whichever occurs first). Refer to the Damage Due to Use and/or Environment section.

WHAT IS NOT COVERED BY THIS LIMITED NEW VEHICLE WARRANTY?

Damage from an accident, misuse, or alteration

Examples of items not covered:

  • Accidental collision, fire, theft, freezing, vandalism, riot, flood, explosion, dismantling, or objects striking the vehicle (including when the vehicle is in a car wash)
  • Misuse of the vehicle, such as driving on sidewalks, overloading, participating in a race, or using the vehicle as a stationary power source
  • Changes, modifications, or reconstructions of the vehicle made after the buyer takes possession of the vehicle from Ford of Canada affecting its body, chassis, or any other component
  • Changes or modifications made after the buyer takes possession of the vehicle from Ford of Canada and aimed at enabling the use of alternative fuel
  • Reconstruction of the vehicle after it has suffered, in an accident, damages such that it has been sent to the scrapyard, or is declared a total loss, even if the rebuilt vehicle uses undamaged parts and components from the vehicle declared a total loss.
  • Fraudulently altering the vehicle, including its emission systems or other parts affecting those systems (e.g., exhaust and intake systems)
  • Contaminated or inappropriate fuels or fluids
  • Chemicals applied by customers and accidental spills
  • Driving through water deep enough to cause water ingress into the engine or battery
  • Non-Ford manufactured parts installed after the buyer takes possession of the vehicle from Ford of Canada and causing failure of a Ford-manufactured part. Examples include, but are not limited to, lift kits, oversized tires, roll bars, cell phones, alarm systems, remote start systems, and drivetrain performance enhancement components
  • Improper vehicle storage (refer to the Owner's Guide for necessary procedures to protect the high-voltage battery during storage)

NOTE: Warranty coverage for parts affected by such damage will be voided.

Damage Due to Use or Environment

The limited new vehicle warranty does not cover rust, deterioration, color loss, discoloration, or other aesthetic issues affecting the vehicle surface and resulting from vehicle use or exposure to the elements.

Some examples:

  • Chips and scratches caused by rocks (e.g., on paint or glass)
  • Cracks in the windshield. However, limited warranty coverage for windshield cracks will be provided for the first 12 months or 20,000 kilometers (whichever occurs first) even if they were caused by vehicle use or exposure to the elements
  • Dents/impact marks
  • Lightning and hail
  • Earthquakes
  • Cuts, burns, perforations, or tears
  • Bird and bee droppings
  • Road salt and tree sap
  • Strong winds
  • Water or floods

Damages Caused by Improper Maintenance

The limited warranty on new vehicles does not cover damages resulting from failure to maintain the vehicle, improper vehicle maintenance, or the use of incorrect parts, fuel, oil, or lubricants or fluids.

In fact, failure to adhere to maintenance guidelines specified in the Owner's Guide will result in warranty coverage being voided for parts affected by improper maintenance.

Please refer to the Owner's Guide for technical specifications and specific fluid levels, and read the Periodic Maintenance section of your Owner's Guide for proper maintenance instructions for your vehicle.

Maintenance/Wear

The limited warranty on new vehicles does not cover parts and labor required for maintaining your vehicle and replacing parts due to normal wear and tear (except items listed in the "Maintenance and Wear of Certain Items Comes with Limited Warranty" section). You are responsible for these items as an owner. Some examples:

  • Oil changes
  • Cleaning/polishing
  • Engine tune-ups
  • Oil/air filters
  • Tire rotations
  • Oils, lubricants, and other fluids

Parts that need replacement as part of Ford's periodic maintenance services are covered against defects in workmanship or materials manufactured or supplied by Ford, whichever is shorter of these periods:

  1. The first replacement milestone specified in your Owner's Guide; or
  2. The "time and distance limits" of the limited warranty on new vehicles (whichever occurs first).

Maintenance and Wear of Certain Items Comes with Limited Warranty

Ford of Canada dealers will replace brake pads and linings for a period of 12 months or 20,000 km (whichever occurs first) from the original warranty start date if required due to a defect caused by normal wear.

If necessary due to a defect related to normal wear or deterioration, Ford of Canada dealers will replace windshield wiper blades for a period of 6 months, unlimited distance, from the original warranty start date.

Other Items and Conditions Not Covered by This Warranty

Some examples of other items not covered:

  • Parts of your vehicle not manufactured by Ford and installed by a body builder or manufacturer other than Ford; or damages to Ford components caused by the installation of parts not manufactured by Ford
  • Disconnection or modification of the odometer, or inability to determine the actual distance traveled due to an inoperative odometer for an extended period (this would result in cancellation of the limited warranty on new vehicles)
  • Vehicles currently or previously declared as "dismantled," "fire-damaged," "flood-damaged," "salvage," "rebuilt," "total loss," or "recovered" (this would cancel the limited warranty on new vehicles)
  • Vehicles declared "total loss" by an insurance company (this would result in cancellation of the limited warranty on new vehicles)
  • Ford certified parts replaced under conditions other than under this limited warranty on new vehicles or in accordance with Ford's customer satisfaction program or a Ford recall are not eligible for the remaining coverage period of the limited warranty on new vehicles; however, they may come with their own warranty (consult your dealer for more information)

SYNC Hands-Free Communication and Entertainment System

If your vehicle is equipped with the SYNC system, the limited warranty on new vehicles does not apply to certain repairs or replacements. Here are some examples:

Loss of Multimedia Content, software, or personal data found on the vehicle when delivered to you is covered by this warranty. For your protection, we suggest informing your dealer within one week of vehicle delivery if you notice such defects, as normal deterioration resulting from vehicle use and exposure to the elements is not covered by this warranty.

Defect or Damage: Please note that there is a distinction between the terms "defect" and "damage" used in this warranty. Defects are covered because we, the manufacturers, are responsible for them. This includes defects in parts supplied by Ford and used in warranty repairs, just as it does with original vehicle parts. On the other hand, we have no control over damage caused by modifications, collision, misuse, or lack of maintenance. Thus, damages are not covered by this warranty.

Take care of your vehicle and it will take care of you!

Proper maintenance protects you from expenses related to major repairs resulting from neglect or improper maintenance and can help increase the resale value of your vehicle.

Your dealer employs factory-trained technicians who can perform required maintenance using Ford-approved parts. Your dealer will be happy to provide you with all the services necessary to maximize your satisfaction with the vehicle.

It is your responsibility to ensure that all periodic maintenance is performed and that materials used meet Ford's design requirements. Failure to perform periodic maintenance as outlined in the Periodic Maintenance section of your owner's guide will result in warranty coverage being voided for parts affected by improper maintenance. Be sure to keep receipts for maintenance work performed with the vehicle and ask the dealer to complete the vehicle's periodic maintenance validation record.

Mediation and Arbitration Program (Canada Only)

If you feel that the efforts made by Ford or the dealer to resolve a vehicle maintenance issue resulting from a factory-related problem were not satisfactory, please note that Ford of Canada participates in an impartial mediation and arbitration program conducted by a third party and administered by the Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan (CAMVAP).

The CAMVAP program provides a direct and relatively quick solution to resolve a disagreement following the failure of all other efforts to reach a settlement. This procedure is free and is designed to eliminate the need for lengthy and costly legal proceedings.

Under the CAMVAP program, impartial third-party arbitrators conduct hearings at times and locations convenient to both parties, all in an informal environment. These impartial arbitrators review the positions of both parties, make decisions, and, when necessary, render awards to settle disputes. CAMVAP decisions are prompt, fair, and final, as the award rendered by the arbitrator is binding on both you and Ford of Canada.

CAMVAP services are available in all provinces and territories of Canada. For more information, to file a claim, or to understand obligations, contact the CAMVAP administrator for your province or territory directly at 1-800-207-0685, or visit www.camvap.ca.
